This program originally targeted Bitou Bush and now encompasses a variety of weeds of the coastal corridor. The volunteer worker teams complement the works of the Specialist Regenerators and work in with GTCC Noxious Weeds Officers.
The Volunteer Worker Project operates 2 days per week at 5 sites along the Manning Coastline - Harrington, Crowdy Head, Manning Point, Old Bar, Hallidays Point and the Community Nursery at Kolodong.
The Community Nursery is located within the Greater Taree City Council Works Depot. Local seed is collected and propagated for a variety of uses from coastal regeneration to riparian project and council landscaping projects. Some 33 volunteers are currently involved. If you are ‘over 55’ and meeting an ‘activity requirement’ with Centrelink or a Job Network Provider - why not spend 15 hours per week getting involved and helping the environment.
